GTO Wizard alternatives, by what you need

Free and cheaper alternatives to GTO Wizard, grouped by what you need: a solver for your own spots, a library of solved spots or a trainer that explains.

The short answer

The best GTO Wizard alternative depends on what you need: to solve your own spots it’s PioSolver, a one-time license for a Windows PC from €300 plus tax, and for cheaper solver drills it’s DTO Poker from $9.99 a month or Postflop+ at $14.99, both with free versions.

If you’re still learning, Poker Skill, which we make, is a free app where you play full hands against AI opponents in Practice vs AI and each decision is graded. For PLO, GTO Wizard is still the one to pick: none of the others covers it, though the maker of Postflop+ sells a PLO trainer as a separate app.

A solver for your own spots

GTO Wizard solves spots you set up on two plans. Elite, at $169 a month, solves heads-up spots and Ultra adds multiway ones. PioSolver does the heads-up part on your own Windows computer, for a one-time price plus tax: Pro costs €300 for one computer or €450 for two, and Edge, which adds a preflop solver, costs €550 or €800. PioSolver vs GTO Wizard compares the two in full.

A library of solved spots

GTO Wizard’s library covers cash games, tournaments and PLO4 across many stack depths and bet sizes, and it is the only one here with PLO. DTO Poker’s explorer is the closest cheaper match, with every cash preflop solution free and more on paid plans. Postflop+ carries solved postflop spots across all 1,755 strategically distinct flops on your phone. Our free solver answers for heads-up pots are far smaller: 50 spots chosen from what players search for, each with the why in plain words.

A trainer that explains the why

Poker Skill, which we make, is built around the why: in Practice vs AI you play full hands against AI opponents while Coach Max grades each decision, and every lesson answer comes with a coaching explanation. DTO Poker explains hands in words too. A free account gets 5 Virtual Coach explanations a day in the web trainer, and paid plans get more. A solver gives you the right play as numbers, which helps once you can read EV and frequencies.

The four alternatives in detail

PioSolver

A solver you run on your own PC

€300 once, plus tax, for Pro on one computer

Best for Serious players who want to set up and solve their own heads-up spots, and to own the software outright.

Skip if You want solved spots ready to browse, or you study PLO or multiway pots, which it doesn't solve.

Free version A free version with Pro's speed that solves only example flops, for testing your computer.

Where it runs Windows; a Mac through Parallels

PioSolver solves heads-up Hold'em spots you define yourself: you enter both ranges, the pot, the stacks and the bet sizes, and it works out the strategy on your own computer. Pro handles flop, turn and river spots and includes a trainer, node locking and aggregation reports. Edge adds a preflop solver for computers with at least 64 GB of memory. The license is yours for life, with a year of updates included.

PioSolver's node locking window on its documentation site: a four, three, two flop after a check at the root, an action bar from a bet of 180 down to check, a 13 by 13 hand grid shaded by strategy, a slider for each action and strategy boxes for four ace-seven hands.
Each square of the grid is a starting hand, colored by how the solver plays it in the spot you built.

Compared with Poker Skill: PioSolver is the better pick for solving your own spots on a Windows PC, while Poker Skill teaches Hold'em and deals coached hands on iPhone and Android.

DTO Poker

Solver practice for less

$9.99 a month for Cash Beginner or Tournament Grinder, on the web

Best for Players who want to play hands against a GTO bot and see each decision graded, for much less than GTO Wizard.

Skip if You play PLO, which DTO doesn't cover, or you want exact EV loss and frequencies without paying for a top plan.

Free version A free account opens every cash preflop solution, trains one cash postflop spot with no hand limit and gives 5 Virtual Coach explanations a day in the web trainer.

Where it runs Web, iPhone, iPad and Android; the explorer is web only

DTO Poker grades every decision you make in hands against its GTO bot, using simplified solutions it designs to be easier to learn. An explorer of solutions sits beside the trainer on the web, and a Virtual Coach, powered by OpenAI, explains hands in words. Cash and tournaments are separate products, and each product's top plan, Cash Pro at $39.99 or Super High Roller at $99.99 a month, adds exact EV loss and frequencies.

DTO Poker's tournament trainer on an iPad: a 25 big blind single-raised pot on a jack, seven, two flop, where you hold the nine and jack of hearts on the button and DTO's bot raises to 7.7 big blinds, with Fold, Call 4.2 and All in 22.7 buttons on the right.
DTO's bot holds the other seat: it has raised your flop bet, and the next decision is yours.

Compared with Poker Skill: DTO Poker is the better pick for cheap solver drills on web and phone, while Poker Skill explains each lesson answer in plain words on iPhone and Android.

Postflop+

Solver drills on your phone, offline

$14.99 a month, or $99.99 a year

Best for Players who know the basics and want to drill postflop spots against solver play on a phone, with or without a connection.

Skip if You're learning the game, since it grades you against solver play rather than explaining it in words, or you study PLO, which its maker sells as a separate app.

Free version Free to download, with free drills in every game type each day.

Where it runs iPhone, iPad and Android

Postflop+ stores solved spots on your device and has you play postflop hands against a GTO bot, in cash games, tournaments, Spin & Go and heads-up, across all 1,755 strategically distinct flops. Each action gets a grade of Perfect, OK, Mistake or Blunder, with the solver's EV and frequency beside it. Once the spots are downloaded, it works with no connection.

Postflop+ App Store image headed Solver Feedback Every Decision: an iPad screen reading PERFECT, you made 4 perfect decisions, with the ace of hearts and queen of clubs on a three, five, jack flop and action tiles showing EV and frequency, such as check at plus 0.7 EV and 99.6 percent.
Every action shows its EV and how often the solver takes it, under a one-word grade.

Compared with Poker Skill: Postflop+ is the better pick for drilling solver spots on a phone with no connection, while Poker Skill starts from the rules and hand rankings on iPhone and Android.

Poker Skill

Ours

A free app that teaches the why

Free forever.

Best for Players still learning Hold'em who want each decision in a full hand graded and each lesson answer explained.

Skip if You want solved spots to browse, your own solves or hand-history analysis. Poker Skill is a learning app and doesn't solve spots.

Free version Every lesson, the Daily Puzzle and one Practice vs AI game a day. Poker Skill Plus is an optional subscription.

Where it runs iPhone, iPad and Android

We make Poker Skill. Practice vs AI deals full hands against AI opponents at a heads-up or three-player table, and Coach Max grades each of your decisions. Every lesson answer gets a coaching explanation, so you learn why a play works, and the Daily Puzzle grades every option of one decision a day. It teaches Texas Hold'em only.
