Questions about who wins
What is a kicker in poker?
A kicker is a card in your best five that isn't part of your pair, three of a kind or other made cards. With Q-Q-A-9-7, the ace is your top kicker. When two players have a pair of the same rank, the higher kicker wins, and if the top kickers match, the next ones decide.
Q ♣ Q ♦ A ♠ 9 ♥ 7 ♣ queen of clubs, queen of diamonds, ace of spades, nine of hearts and seven of clubs
Is an ace high or low in poker?
Both. The ace is the highest card, and it also plays low in one straight, A-2-3-4-5, which is a five-high straight and the lowest one. A straight can't wrap around the ace, so Q-K-A-2-3 is not a straight.
A ♥ 2 ♦ 3 ♣ 4 ♠ 5 ♥ ace of hearts, two of diamonds, three of clubs, four of spades and five of hearts
Do suits matter in poker?
Only to make a flush, a straight flush or a royal flush, which need five cards of one suit. No suit ranks above another in Texas Hold'em, so two hands of the same kind with the same five ranks split the pot whatever their suits.
Who wins when both players have a full house?
The higher three of a kind wins, so kings full of fours beats queens full of aces. If both players have the same three of a kind, the higher pair decides: twos full of kings beats twos full of jacks.
K ♥ K ♦ K ♣ 4 ♠ 4 ♥ king of hearts, king of diamonds, king of clubs, four of spades and four of hearts beats Q ♠ Q ♥ Q ♦ A ♣ A ♦ queen of spades, queen of hearts, queen of diamonds, ace of clubs and ace of diamonds
Do you have to use both hole cards in Texas Hold'em?
No. Your hand is the best five of the seven cards you can see, your two plus the five on the board. You can play both of your cards or one of them, and when neither helps, you play the board.
