The four in detail

Poker Skill
Lessons, a Daily Puzzle and full hands against AI, with a reason after every decision
Free forever.
Best for Beginners who want to learn by playing full hands, with Coach Max explaining every decision, right or wrong.
Skip if You want Omaha or stud, because Poker Skill teaches Texas Hold'em only. Or you want to drill one preflop spot after another against a range chart, which Poker Trainer does.
Free version Every lesson, the Daily Puzzle and one Practice vs AI game a day.
Where it runs iPhone, iPad and Android
Lessons start with the rules and hand rankings and take a few minutes each. In Practice vs AI you play full hands against AI opponents, and Coach Max grades each decision and says why, whether you were right or wrong. A new Daily Puzzle arrives every day.

Poker Trainer – Learn Poker
Short drills on preflop, postflop, odds and hand rankings, with a plan built on your weak spots
Free Premium $14.99 a month
Best for Players who know the rules and want quick daily reps on one spot type at a time, with the range chart in front of them.
Skip if You want every right answer explained as well as your mistakes, or lessons in order from the rules up. Its tutorials are short and sit beside the drills.
Free version 10 Simulator hands a day, plus its math and hand-ranking drills, tutorials, Range Viewer and Odds Calculator. Premium lifts the hand limit.
Where it runs iPhone, iPad, Android and the web
Poker Trainer, made by SweDevIT in Sweden, drills preflop and postflop decisions, hand rankings and poker math. Its simulator also plays full hands. It builds a training plan from your weakest areas and brings common mistakes back. After a mistake it shows the right answer and why. A right answer just scores a point. Untick "Show only on mistakes" in Practice mode and right preflop answers get the reason too.

Compared with Poker Skill: Poker Trainer is the pick for quick drills on one spot type at a time, while Poker Skill explains every answer, right or wrong, with nothing to switch on.

DTO Poker
A GTO trainer that points out each mistake against solved strategy
Free plan Beginner $9.99 a month on the web

Where it runs Web, iPhone and Android, with cash games and tournaments as separate apps
DTO Poker deals you common cash game and tournament spots against its GTO bot and points out each mistake as you play. Its free plan opens every preflop cash solution, and its Virtual Coach explains moves in words.

What each one costs
Does Poker Trainer – Learn Poker explain its answers?
After a mistake, yes. A wrong answer in its preflop drill opens a panel with the right play, the range chart for the spot and a short reason, with a “Why raise?” or “Why fold?” section that lists the ideas behind it. The postflop drill names the play its gameplan prefers and says why. The odds drill, which quizzes pot odds and bluffs, shows the right percentage with the sum behind it: risk 108 to win 72, and a bluff has to work 60% of the time. The hand-ranking drills name the hand you missed.
A right answer gets a green button and a point, and the next hand deals. In Practice mode the preflop and full-hand drills have a “Show only on mistakes” box, ticked when you install the app. Untick it and right preflop answers open the same panel too. Right answers after the flop and in the math and hand-ranking drills still get only the point, and the scored Play mode has no such box.
Compared with Poker Skill: Poker Trainer explains your mistakes, while Poker Skill’s Coach Max explains every decision, right or wrong, in lessons and in full hands against AI opponents.
Try this on any trainer before you pay
Five minutes with a free version
The same three checks work on any poker trainer, whether it drills one spot, sets a daily puzzle or deals full hands.
Where Poker Skill falls short
Poker Skill teaches Texas Hold’em only, so an Omaha player needs another app. Free lessons run on energy: a question costs one the first time you answer it right, and a wrong answer costs nothing. When energy runs out, the lesson pauses until it refills. Free players get one Practice vs AI game a day, against AI opponents rather than people, and Plus gives unlimited Practice vs AI games. And there are no video classes.
How we compared
- What follows an answer
- What the free version gives
- Who it suits
We compared what follows an answer in each app, what its free version gives, what more costs and whether it suits someone starting from zero. Who each one fits is our judgment.
